Simpson.Mashablehas confirmed that the producers ofAmerican Crime Storyhave optioned the rights to another Toobin tome, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President-- which centers around the Monica Lewinsky scandal-- as source material for an upcoming season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is being fast-tracked, with a casting search already underway for actresses to play Lewinsky and her colleague Linda Tripp.
Following the success of The People v. O.J., the team behind American Crime Storyis already developing seasons centered around the government response to Hurricane Katrina and the murder of Gianni Versace.
The season centered around Versace's assassination will begin production first, according to FX president John Landgraf, but the current plan is for the Katrina installment to air before Versace's. Both seasons are expected to debut in 2018, with a premiere date for the Lewinsky iteration yet to be decided.
