【1979 Archives】
If there's one thing we know about Netflix979 Archives it's that when they make up their minds to go after something, they go hard.
For years the streaming giant kept a low profile at Sundance before burying it under a blizzard of cash in January; couldn't score a Cannes invite before finally crashing that party in May; and barely registered at Comic-Con before this weekend.
And to be fair, it finally had a good reason to come down.
SEE ALSO: 'Stranger Things' drops thrilling Season 2 trailer at Comic-ConWith genre-inflected original films Brightand Death Noteright around the corner and the explosive popularity of Stranger Things, Netflix was ready to put the Eggo in San Diego: A flashy booth on the convention floor. An off-site installation with long lines and rowdy crowds. Not one, but twofull-blown panels in Hall H. And a "secret screening" to cap it all off.
Mashablehad eyes on all the stops Netflix pulled at Comic-Con this year. Come along for a binge:
The Convention Floor Booth
Netflix's first trip to the convention floor madness drew a healthy line to its Stranger Thingsand Defenders-themed booth, its very first here in San Diego.
Fans lined up around giant murals ...

... for a chance to step inside a tunnel made of video screens:

... that was showing previews of The Defenders...

... and Stranger Things 2, of course:

The Installation at the Hilton Gaslamp
But the big marketing money was spent across the street, where Netflix took over the giant patio event space at the Hilton Gaslamp. Wasn't hard to spot:

After a press preview on Thursday morning, fans had to line up outside the Hilton for their shot to go up the stairs and inside.

The space had a big area dedicated to original movies Brightand Death Note, with airbrush tattoo artists, selfie stations that turned us humans into the Orcs of Bright ...

... and costumes from the film starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as a human/Orc buddy cop pair enforcing the law in a modern Los Angeles that's filled with mythical creatures (Brightcomes to Netflix in December).

But the real draw was the spooky Stranger Thingshouse ...

... where the first thing you encountered was a shrine to our dearly departed Barb:

The space was loaded with artifacts from the show's first season, and probably more than a few from 2:

And of course, it wouldn't be an hour-long-wait Comic-Con installation without swag:

A few steps away, an all-too-faithful version of the Byers house was ready for the picture-taking:

... complete with an active Demogorgon:

The Defenders, meanwhile, had a nice big outdoor space where you could stand among them for a photo ...

... or perform a horrifying (but A-plus -- eyes up, Iron Fist) photo-bomb:

The Hall H panels
The Comic-Con trifecta wouldn't be complete without a Hall H panel, but Netflix is so baller in 2017 that they staged two. On separate days!
Who does this?

First up on Thursday was Brightand Death Note, two original films that are right at home at Comic-Con.
We learned that Bright(full panel recap here) will use its elves, humans and Orcs to lean hard into race issues, while Death Noteseems to be a fairly faithful telling of the source manga. (If that wasn't enough, Death Noteheld a "secret screening" on Thursday night in the Gaslamp.)
Stranger Things 2 came up on Saturday afternoon, an affair that went pretty smoothly, despite that they misspelled moderator Patton Oswalt's name.
Just about everyone was there ...

... even Barb, who totally "surprise"-crashed (we got video) despite that fact that she is really, truly not coming back.

She's not, OK? Let it go.
