With the latest Bitmoji update, which Snap is calling "Bitmoji Deluxe," you can start each new Bitmoji creation with a quick selfie. Once you snap it, the selfie will sit alongside your avatar in order to help you better perfect your look. Though the selfies are for now meant to be a reference tool, the feature could be used for much more in the future. In a patent filed in 2016, Snap hintedthat it could one day use facial recognition to automatically create users' Bitmoji avatars. There's no sign of facial recognition in this update, but adding a selfie feature to the app could certainly be a step in that direction.

The update also adds hundreds of new hairstyles -- which Snap says has been one of its most requested features -- including the ability to add highlights and ombre color effects. There are also new options for skin tone, facial features, accessories, and outfits.

The new "Bitmoji Deluxe" features are available now in the Bitmoji app. Users can still revert back to previous Bitmoji styles in the app's settings.
