Seventeen kebab shops from across the UK won awards in categories ranging from Best Kebab Van to Best Fine Dining Restaurant. The winner of the kebab van award went to Atalay Kebab Van in Thame, Oxfordshire, while Veyso's in Hertford won the award for best Fine Dining Restaurant. Pizza King Kebab House in Edmonton was named best takeaway in London. BBC Radio 1 DJs Chris Stark and Scott Mills hosted the event, which was attended by politicians including Andrew Percy MP, Barry Gardiner MP, and Simon Danczuk MP. True to British form, people flocked to Twitter to express their enthusiasm for the Kebab Awards, and their lack thereof for the Oscars.Some people didn't mince words.
