【eroticized transference,】
With the concept of what's TV and eroticized transference, what's film utterly upside-down and Stranger Things'second season just a month away, Matt and Ross Duffer are making it painfully clear that they're equating their creation to a movie sequel -- and want us to call it Stranger Things 2.
Not Stranger Things. Not Stranger Things, Season 2. Not the second season of Stranger Things.
Stranger Things 2.
Everybody got that?
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Duffers emphasize what they've been saying all along: this is more of a cinematic sequel than a second season of TV. Either way, beware of that sophomore slump (looking at you, Friday Night Lights, and nearly all movie sequels).
"Netflix was like, ‘Don’t do that, because sequels are known to be bad,’ ” said Matt Duffer. “I was like, ‘Yes, but what about T2 and Aliensand Toy Story 2and Godfather II?’ ”
In the interview, Ross Duffer also teased more about the new monster, which many fans speculate is the thessalhydra from Dungeons and Dragons and which Will might know from his time in the Upside Down.
This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.
According toEW, Duffer referred to the new creature as a “shadow monster,” and it first appears in visions Will still has of the Upside Down.
“It’s all connected to this singular threat, which is tied into this shape that Will sees in the sky,” he said of the season's action that unfolds over nine episodes.
We know a few more tantalizing details about Stranger Things 2, including that Joyce (Winona Ryder) starts dating Mikey WalshBob (Sean Astin) and that Eleven will somehow be back.
“Each episode is building on the last one," said co-creator Matt Duffer. "It gets much crazier than it ever got in season one."
Crazier and stranger, one would hope.
Stranger Things 2premieres Oct. 27.
